London Calling

I have been living in London for over 17 years and I have never written a post on the places to see or visit while I have been here.  Therefore over the course of this blog, I will be sharing with you the best things to do in London, whether that be going out to bars or clubs, restaurants or seeing a show.

The top places to go out in Soho/ Piccadilly

1) Karoke bar

I had not done karaoke in Soho before a random night out took me to Lucky Voice Karaoke bar.  There were five of us in total and we hired out the room for one hour. I would suggest you book your booth at least 3 hours in advance.  We just got the booking as it was a Friday night. After 10 pm it is 10 pounds per person.

2) Balans

Balans place is open until 6am and serves food till 3am.  Like Bar Italia, this is a place where people go for additional drinks after the clubs, but it is much bigger than Bar Italia.  I went with two friends and we ordered 3 cocktails, very generous portions, but then it was about 8 pounds a drink which is normal price for cocktails in central London.

3) Madame Jojos

I hear it is a good night here at Madame Jojos in Soho, I only walked past it as it was 2am and therefore we were unable to get in. It is according to its website  “established as one of London’s most distinctive and best-loved venues, presenting a host of entertainment events from top-notch cabaret & burlesque to celebrated cutting-edge club nights, and spanning a range of musical genres…”

4)China Town

If you have not been to London before, you have to head over to China Town for some traditional Chinese food. It is right behind Leicester Square and off of Shaftsbury Avenue.  London China Town is very small, there are only about 4 streets, but definitely worth visiting, especially for Chinese New Year, where there are special deals and parties going on.

5) The Living Room

This is a bar which is actually just behind Regent Street, (on Heddon Street= but well worth me writing about in this post.  They serve a large selection of beers including Corona (I am surprised by the number of places that do not serve any of this light beer.  There is normally someone playing the piano in The Living Room which provides great background music before the party really starts happening.  You can also order food here, the prices are reasonable from 8 pounds upwards and the quality is really good, better than average pub food.  The bar shuts at 1am on a Saturday.  For those that want to keep on dancing,  Strawberry Moon is right next door.

Getting home in London is easy, there are loads of cabs if you are feeling rich, or a night bus if you are not.  Lucky for me I only live in Fulham and it was a number 22 or 14 bus that took me all the way home in just 20 minutes.
