Sydney 10k Run – Great Morning in Sydney

Australia Sydney
Posted: July 14, 2013

Today was the first time I took part in a 10k run in Sydney.  It was a beautiful day for a race, set in circular quay and I managed to run round the course in under one hour.  This places me in good stead for the City2Surf which takes occurs in just 4 weeks.  City2Surf in Sydney is supposed to be one of the most difficult courses because of all the hills in the city.

The race today started early, at 7:30 am.  Real Insurance were running a “Capture a Real Moment” competition where people were encouraged to take a photo of them on the day and tweet about it with the hashtag #realsyd10k.  This would give them the chance of winning a $400 Rebel sports voucher. I took a lot of photos, here are just a few of them.

A lot of companies worked behind the scenes to make the day a great success. For those attending the race, they may not realise how much work went into organising  the Sydney 10km.  FourthWall set up the fruit stall and the chill out zone the day before.  They also arrived early on the Sunday to lay out the fruit and add “Real Insurance” stickers to each one. I am sure everyone enjoyed having several different pieces of fruit on the day after their race.

Pont3 organised the event and liaised with Real Insurance to ensure everything went smoothly on the day.  Pont3 were up at the crack of dawn to make sure everyone enjoyed the day.  I was overwhelmed with how much work went into the race yesterday and how calm and collective both companies were.  Pont3 also had contacts with some of the charities that runners were fundraising for on the day.

I have been raising money for RedKite, a children’s charity in Sydney, helping children and their families affected by cancer.  I have  not managed to generate much funds, but am looking to raise more.  If you would like to contribute, please click on the fundraising link.

Thank you to everyone who helped to organise such a great event.  It was a beautiful sunny day, let me know if you have any photos if you would like to share.
