Going out in Northbridge, Perth

Australia Perth
Posted: February 21, 2012

Northbridge is an ethnic area of Perth just north of the train station.  China Town is located along James Street and the whole area is a buzzing place attracting a lot of party goers in the evenings.  Here are a few of my recommendations on where to go for a night out in Northbridge

Valentino’s

Start here for dinner as it is delicious. I go every two weeks as that is the location of my Spanish meetup group. The chicken salad is one of the best salads I have ever had.  The pizza and pasta are also pretty good. If you are not drinking, a soft drink and a main meal will set you back $20, not bad for some authentic Italian in Perth.

The Bird

This quirky bar reminds me of those in Shoreditch, London.  There is a big area indoors where there is also live music. Outside there is a small patio area which is good if there are not too many people. It is a very sociable place to go on a night out.  I would stay here for a few drinks and then move on to The Court for more of a boogie.

A few blocks north of Newcastle street, we went to this bar on a Friday night.  No one asked for ID or that we could not wear “singlets” which was good as some of us did not have ID and were more dressed for the beach.  Beers are expensive in Perth, and here we got a pitcher of cider to share between 6 of us for $25.  It wasn’t that strong, but was a refreshing drink on a warm Friday night.

Mustang Bar

This place is very busy on a Tuesday night, free salsa dancing.  I went here as some of my friends from my Spanish meetup group come to this event weekly. It is a fun night out and if you fancy a bit of a dance and can’t wait till the weekend, this is the place to visit.

Northbridge is one of the liveliest parts of the city.  Stores are open past 9pm and they are also open on Sundays. Next time you are heading for a night out, come out to Northbridge.
