Dirty South, Barcelona – Food from the South of the US – Review

I used to live in the US and I loved eating American food. It was always relatively cheap and I especially loved some of the southern dishes such southern fried chicken and corn bread. I was therefore really excited to see Dirty South Barcelona opening in Barcelona. I had been following them since January and couldn’t wait for their restaurant to open.

Welcome Drink

The Soft Launch was on Friday, May 5th and my boyfriend and I stopped in for a drink. On Saturday, we went for dinner. Come hungry and do not eat too much. I was so full until lunch time the following day.

We had the starters – two actually, which looking back, we should have just eaten one. The fried green tomatoes at 7 Euros were delicious. Highly recommend them. We also had the macaroni and cheese. Macaroni and cheese is a classic American dish.

There were many choices for the mains. But I only had one thing on my mind, chicken! I would recommend the southern fried chicken, it was delicious. It comes with corn and slaw and three big pieces of chicken. There is enough to share for two and at 15 Euros a plate, you certainly get your money’s worth.

I will be going again and this time will make room for some of the classic American desserts such as cobbler and pecan pie.

If you are looking for a new place for brunch, Dirty South is the restaurant to visit. I am planning on making my own brunch trip over soon. I cannot wait to sample their home cooked American lunches. They also have all you can drink Bloody Mary’s, so might try a few of them too.

Dirty South Barcelona already has a huge following on Instagram. On opening night, they had just under 2000 Followers, now they have over 2,600 in just over a week.  This brand new restaurant is run by Katie and Theo O’Donnell. Katie is from the southern states in America and Theo is from the UK. They were both there at the soft launch and even welcomed us with some cava. I am always impressed with those running their own business and hats off to these two. Wishing them every success with the restaurant, they have certainly found a gap in the market with their restaurant.
