VIP Festival Down Under – Southbound

Australia Perth
Posted: January 17, 2012

I was given a VIP ticket to a well known Australian Music and Arts Festival called Southbound which is a 2 day event near Busselton, Western Australia.

We all went to Southbound leaving at 5:00am on Saturday.  I was glad we left so early as that meant we had a good place at the campsite, close to the entrance. The doors to the festival opened at 10:30

Recommended acts to see and now buy music of:

Aloe Blacc – his hit single “I need a dollar” last year drew in the crowds at the festival.  It was the first time I heard his other music which was R&B and Soul.

Emma Louise – a very young girl, also seemed quite humble thanking everyone for coming to the festival.

The Jezabels – an Australian group from Sydney with a mix of music genre – indie pop, indie rock and disco pop.

The Kooks -an English Indie rock group from Brighton.  Formed in 2001 and made of four guys.

Lanie Lane – a blue-jazz Australian singer.  She is widely known for her song “What Do I Do” as it was used as the theme on the ABC TV Show – Crownies.

Missy Higgins – an Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne is well known for her no.1 albums The Sound of White (2004) and On a Clear Night (2007)

Wonderful World of DJ Yoda – from London, UK is a hip hop turntablist and has synced music with the videos on stage – very clever.

We had a great time at the festival, also partly due to the fact we had VIP tickets.  I had never purchased VIP tickets before and it was well worth it.  Here are my reasons:

5 reasons to go VIP

1)No Queue for drinks

You get 4 alcoholic tickets – lets you get drinks of up to the value of $11 each. The VIP bar is not very busy which means you can spend less time waiting in line and more time watching the bands.

2) Food

Dinner on the Saturday and Sunday is provided in the VIP Package.  There were three options each day, or you could have all three meals in one

3) Shade

Very important in a country like Australia.  When it gets hot, it gets too hot and alcohol and sun are not a good mix.  Luckily for us it was cloudy for large parts of the day which also meant it was comfortable to sleep at night

4) More drinks

The VIP package also includes 4 non alcoholic drinks.  You can then exchange the 2 non alcoholic tickets for an alcoholic drink

5) No Queue for the Toilets

VIP means you do not have to queue for up to 30 minutes to use the bathroom.  Drinking water and alcohol means you will be using the facilities more often that at home. This was well worth the extra $100 for the VIP ticket.

The festival finished at midnight on the Sunday the 8th of January.  We packed up early the next day and headed to Yallingup beach for a swim.  A perfect end to a fantastic weekend.
