Domestic Goddess – Learning to Cook Jamie’s style

I am the typical modern gal – working lots of hours, going to the gym, going out with friends and therefore have little time to cook.  I am what my mother says “domestically challenged”.

I had been living (until recently) with my sister and soon to be brother in law who loves cooking.  My sister and I called him “chef” and often told us  “Girls, get out of MY kitchen”. Ahh that is music to my ears, why can’t all guys say that to girls?

My sister and her fiance moved Down Under in June and as our “chef” didn’t want me to go hungry, he bought me a cooking class at Jamie’s Recipease for my birthday back in May.

I went to Recipease in Clapham Junction earlier this month with a friend and traded in the birthdy voucher to learn how to cook “American style chilli”.   If two of you do the same class, you get a discount of £5 each making the course £35 instead of £40 each.

Below are some of the photos from the class.  I would definitely recommend this as a present or treat for a friend.

Our class started at 5:30 and they recommend you get there at least 10 minutes beforehand.  You put all your bags and coats into a locker in exchange for an apron.  You get a complimentary drink and meet the rest of the people cooking with you.  When I went, we had a chef called Reena who was really good.  She showed us what we would be making and also gave us some generic cooking tips. Reena was extremely helpful and we all had our meal ready on time to sit down and tuck in together.

I never would have thought about making chilli with pork mince but it was delicious.  We also made guacamole and flat bread.  It took just 20 minutes to make both the guacamole and flat bread.  You can’t take the food home with you due to health and saftey regulations so my friend and I tucked in.

If you have any other recipease that you make at Clapham or Brighton, feel free to share them here.  I would really like to make the Thai green curry meal.
