Places to Stay in New York City – The Pod Review

New York City North America
Posted: March 29, 2013

The Pod hotel located on 39th and Lexington, right in the center of midtown NYC offers a relatively cheap place to stay for those wanting to be in the heart of Manhattan.

Pod Hotel

I found the hotel on Travel Republic and only booked it just two weeks before I was due to stay in Manhattan.  Pod 39 is the second “pod” hotel to open in NYC and rooms averaged around £100 a night which is much more affordable than some of the other hotels in the city.  I would certainly recommend staying here for the following reasons:

1) Good value

I really enjoyed my stay at Pod 39. There was also a roof terrace where guests can enjoy the view in the winter months. The room was compact, but neat and new and clean. I had my own tv with lots of channels. The bed was a comfortable double, perfect for one.  The room was ideal for me, with a nice view and black out shutters to keep out the sunlight.

2) Central location

The Pod Hotel is located just two blocks away from Central Station which is where the bus picks up and drops off passengers at the airport.

The hotel is located at: 145 East, 39th Street, New York City, NY 10016

It took around 10 minutes to walk to Times Square from the hotel walking three blocks north and five blocks east.  The hotel was not too far from Central Park which is located on 59th street. Pod 39 is just three blocks away from the famous “Fifth Avenue”.

3) Friendly staff

The staff were very patient and friendly.  There was even one employee in the hotel lobby daily from early morning until late at night to answer any questions the hotel guests had.  The employee gave out maps and information to the New York shows and attractions.

4) Restaurant and bar on site

When I went to NYC it was March, but still very cold.  As I was travelling on my own and was there for work, I did not always want to venture out for dinner.  One night, I went to the restaurant and bar in the hotel and the staff could not have been more friendly.  It was more expensive than you would find in some local restaurants, but you pay for convenience and service.

5) Good views of Manhattan from the 17th floor

There is a sun deck on the 17th floor which had a 180 view of the NYC skyline.

6) Room cleaned every day

I am used to doing my own cleaning so it was so nice to have someone else do it for me. Even if I made my bed, one of the cleaners would re make it and the room was always warm and cozy when I returned from the office.

Pod Shower

Due to the location, it was easy to get anywhere from this Pod hotel.  The Newark express bus stopped just one block away on 41st street and Lexington and the bus to JFK was on 41st and Park. This means it was quite easy to get to and from the airport without having to wait for a taxi or pay their expensive fares of up to $100.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.  It was modern, clean, central and all you could ask for from a hotel.  If you have stayed here, I would love to hear from you.
